How to Fix an Overexposed Flash Photo
Pull down highlights and whites in an editor and add contrast back in the midtones — this recovers mild overexposure. Fully blown areas (pure white, no detail) can't be recovered, but an AI relight can re-render the subject at a believable brightness.
What's recoverable
If the bright areas still have some tone (not pure 255-white), lowering Highlights and Whites and nudging Exposure down will bring detail back. Shoot in RAW and you have far more room.
What isn't
Areas that clipped to pure white recorded no information — no slider brings back a face that's a white blob. That's where a relight helps: the AI re-renders the subject rather than trying to recover pixels.

Why is only the middle of my photo bright?
Flash falls off from the centre outward and with distance, so a close central subject gets the most light while edges and background stay dark. Backing up evens it out.
